QUESTION
Does eVit run on both Mac and PC computers?

ANSWER
Yes, eVit runs on the Filemaker database software, developed by an Apple subsidiary for both types of operating systems.


QUESTION
Does eVit run on both iOS and Smartphone/Android devices?

ANSWER
Unfortunately, no, not at this time. Filemaker GO! is the mobile app that only runs on iOS devices (iPhones and iPads). We are investigating a “work around” to this limitation and if it is possible, will not function without a WiFi or 3/4G connection.


QUESTION
Some of my vineyard locations are very remote and do not have cell reception, will eVit work in those situations?

ANSWER
We are developing a solution to this limitation and are very excited about it. The system is called “syncing” and it allows an entire copy, or a portion of the data file to reside on the iOS device. This way, new records can be created and existing records reviewed, in the field, without the need for wireless reception. When the device encounters a wireless signal, eVit automatically “syncs” the local file with the file on the server, “pushing” the new records from the iOS device to the server and downloading any changes made to the file on the server, to the device. With this functionality, you can have all of your data with you wherever you are.


QUESTION
Where is the data file stored?

ANSWER
My recommendation to all eVit users is to allow us to host your data file. We have a contract with a specialized and dedicated Filemaker hosting company that provides all the system requirements to smoothly and efficiently manage client files.


QUESTION
How secure is my data in general and my hosted file in particular?

ANSWER
Very! Filemaker Server has many layers of security and failsafe options that I can’t even begin to articulate. Backups are scheduled daily and there are several steps of redundancy to ensure your data is secure from others and maintained at a standard higher than most in-house IT departments can offer.


QUESTION
Can I share my data with other users?

ANSWER
The short answer is yes, but there are several questions in there. You can share your information with anyone you want to, and conversely, choose not to. Within an organization, any number of employees can view the data file simultaneously. However, only one user at a time can actually create or revise a data record.
